What to Expect From Your Fundraising Strategy Session

Our two-hour fundraising strategy session is designed to help nonprofit leaders evaluate their current fundraising approach and identify clear opportunities for growth. Through research, conversation, and practical recommendations, Fit Fundraising helps organizations strengthen donor relationships and increase giving.

Before the Session

Before we meet, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about your organization’s current fundraising staff, strategy, and development structure. This helps the Fit Fundraising team better understand your program and assess where we may be able to add the most value.

We also review publicly available information about your organization, including fundraising materials, donor communications, and relevant industry trends so we can come prepared with informed perspective.

During the Session

The strategy session typically takes place over two hours. In many cases, Fit Fundraising conducts the session as two one-hour meetings, often scheduled about a week apart.

This approach allows organizations time to process ideas, complete small assignments or follow-up tasks, and return with additional questions for the second session.

 Topics often include:

  •  Relevant fundraising best practices
  • Industry-specific research and trends
  • Comparisons to similar organizations and campaigns
  • Guidance on donor asks and call strategies
  • Help identifying mid-major donors already in your file who may have major donor capacity
  • Development culture assessment, including staff roles and leadership engagement
  • Conversations with key team members, including staff, volunteers, and selected board members
  • Offer development review for annual, mid-major, and major donor engagement

After the Session

Following the session, you will receive a summary of the discussion outlining key observations and recommended next steps.

This summary highlights opportunities to strengthen your fundraising strategy, improve donor engagement, and clarify potential adjustments to staffing, processes, or campaign planning.

If it makes sense, we may also recommend ways Fit Fundraising could support your organization further. In some cases, organizations choose to engage our services for recruiting, campaign strategy, or fundraising counsel.

If we believe your organization is not yet ready for those services, we will say that clearly as well. Our goal is to provide honest guidance that helps you move forward, whether that includes working together or not.
